Answers
Pre-Sales Questions
  1. Is there a minimum time contract/commitment?
Not at all. You can pay monthly or yearly (except for the "Super Saver Plan" which is payable yearly). You can also cancel at any time.

  2. How soon will my account be set up and ready for use?
Account orders are placed in a queue and are processed in the order in which they are received. Your site can be uploaded to our servers immediately after receiving the welcome email, which will contain the IP address for your account, plus the password for the username chosen during signup. In fact, we recommend that clients start uploading their site as soon as possible after setup is complete, so that once domain transfer is completed, the site will be available for use by your visitors.

  3. Do I have access to update my site 24 hours a day?
Absolutely. Whether you're a day person or a night owl, your site is available for you to update.

We can set up .com, .org, and .net as well as .biz, .info, .mobi and .tv [Back to top]

  5. Do you offer a money back guarantee?
Yes. If for any reason during the first 30 days as a FYIWorld customer, you are not completely satisfied with any of our services, we will cancel your account and refund your money for that month's service.

  6. I see some hosts offering "unlimited bandwidth". Why don't you offer this?
Technically speaking, there is no such thing as "unlimited bandwidth." Someone has to pay for the traffic somewhere - and if you check the fine print of some service agreements from companies who claim to offer unlimited bandwidth, you'll probably find that they do charge for traffic over a certain amount. We dispense with the fine print. Our Business Hosting Plan offers free extra bandwidth as you require it.

  7. Do you host Adult sites, warez sites or sites containing illegal material?
No. Please see our Acceptable Use Policy for policies regarding this.

  8. Is my site backed up and how often?
Yes backups are done daily on all servers, a daily incremental back up and a monthly full backup. We strongly recommend you also create your own backups via CPanel and save on your computer.

  9. How fast are your connections?
Web sites hosted with FYIWorld are accessible via a fully meshed and redundant Certified Cisco Network featuring 10 backbone and fiber providers. The network is monitored around the clock. NOC offers 15 diverse OC3 and DS3 connections to multiple backbones.

  10. What are your server specifications?
Our servers use dual Xeon E5620 2.40 GHz Quad Core Processors. We run CentOS 5.5 Enterprise Linux x86. The servers have 12 GB of DDR2 or DDR3 RAM. The connection speed on our servers is 100 mbps (mega bits per second). We also have RAID10 and instant weekly backups of your content. Our data center is SoftLayer located in Dallas, Texas, USA. Ranging from 22,000 to more than 78,000 square feet, these world-class datacenters contain top of the line technology to ensure that servers stay cool, secure, and up at all times. The datacenters feature redundant power, HVAC, and fire detection systems, and are monitored 24/7 by Network Operation Centers. [Back to top]

  11. What Are Your Policies For Dealing With Spam?
Unsolicited bulk email, or SPAM as it is commonly called, is strictly forbidden on our servers. Users who spam via email, newsgroups, or any other method will not be allowed on our servers. If we recieve complaints of spamming or bulk email related to your account, your site will be removed from our servers. We have a very low tolerance for this type of behavior due to agreements we have made with our upstream providers.

Technical Questions
  1. How can I prevent hacking?

    a) The most important thing to do is keep your passwords a secret. If you must give a password to someone, be sure to change it when they are done using the access. Don't write your passwords down or share them with too many people. Periodically change your passwords. You can find more by searching "How can I make a stronger password?"

    b) Along the same idea, you need to make sure your personal computer does not have viruses, trojans, keyloggers, etc.

    c) Keep your scripts and downloaded programs updated. Always upgrade to the latest version of your blog, forum, shopping cart, etc.

    d) Do not have writable file permissions. The correct permissions are normally 755 or 644, and you can check these in your File Manager. Most users know to avoid 777 permissions, but you really want to avoid any permission settings which allow Group and World writing. (That's anything ending in 7, 6, 3, or 2. The first number can be one of these, but not either of the last two numbers.)

You can upload your page(s) immediately by pointing your FTP client to the IP address you were assigned when you opened your account. You will find it in the "Setup" email. After your domain is fully propagated through the system, you can upload to yourdomain.com via FTP or FrontPage Extensions.

  4. What is the path to perl?
    /usr/bin/perl

  5. Where should I put CGI scripts for my domain?
All CGI scripts should be uploaded to the cgi-bin folder, located under the Parent folder, for your domain. Be sure to follow the instructions for the script you are uploading regarding setting permissions on the files and folders you create, as they vary from script to script.
We do NOT offer programming help for CGI Scripts, but there is a wealth of info on the Web. [Back to top]
